Tragic exit of Mariners from U-19 I-League

It is absolute tragic exit for U-19 Mohun Bagan from U-19 I-League this year. They had to win the last match against Sporting Clube de Goa, but they managed to draw only by 1-1 at their own ground. Lalam Puia of Mariners scored earlier but Pritam of Sporting equalized it and secure the ticket of Final.

Mohun Bagan defeated JCT by 2-0 in the last match but Sporting defeated JCT by 4-2 and increased goal average. That is why Mariners boys had to win the match against the Goan outfit. But the match ended in a 1-1 draw and Sporting de Goa U-19 reached to the final by better goal average.

MBSFA boy Captain Souvik Chakraborty  lead well to his team. Specially he was leading from the front and accumulate the attack for mariners.

However, MBSFA boys, who were in the name of Mohun Bagan u-19  have shown a great temperament and made a lot supporters hopeful for the future of the academy and the club.

Mohun Bagan’s letter to IFA

Mohun Bagan has given the letter to IFA regarding the incident of yesterday at Yuba Bharati Krirangan by the Chirag United players. Mohun Bagan has a demand for punishment of the Chirag Players, who man handled the referee. Also MB officials want IFA to investigate the power cut during the match at YBK. Chirag also gave letter to IFA for replay but IFA Gen. Sec. Utpal Ganguly has overruled this demand.
The letter of Mohun Bagan to IFA inside of this news.

Dear Sir,

We would like to draw your kind attention to the fiasco which occurred yesterday at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan during the 2nd half of the Sahara Calcutta Football Premier Division League match played between McDowell Mohun Bagan and Chirag United SC. The manner in which Referee Minangshu Bhattacharya was insulted, taunted and manhandled openly in front of the spectators, team officials, match officials and IFA Officials (including your goodself) was shameless and deplorable. We take this opportunity to condemn this unsporting behaviour.

At the same time, we urge IFA to take strong and severe disciplinary action against the players involved. Just a few minutes earlier a goal scored by our Team was disallowed by the Referee but our players accepted and respected this wrong decision sportingly. Many reporters and ex-players have mentioned that this goal was a genuine one.

This incident has been highlighted by all the print and electronic media and has received media attention for all the wrong reasons thereby tarnishing the image of the Calcutta Football League, IFA and other stakeholders. (Newspaper cuttings enclosed for your ready reference).

A similar incident had occurred on 27th February 2010 in a CFL match of this year’s League itself at the same venue between Kingfisher East Bengal and Mohammedan SC when the players of both teams got involved in a free-for-all at the fag end of the match and Referee Biplab Poddar gave marching orders to four players (two players from either team). IFA had taken a tough stand and had initiated appropriate disciplinary action against the offenders. However it seems that mere suspension for a few matches or monetary fine is not enough since similar incident has recurred within a gap of three months.

So, without intending to interfere in your jurisdiction, it is our earnest suggestion for the sake of Football that long-term suspension/ban is considered and onus must also be on the clubs to control their players. Please note that if players of Chirag United SC are not suitably punished for similar type of offence committed by players of Kingfisher East Bengal and Mohammedan SC in the same tournament; IFA would be guilty of both negligence as well as partiality.

We request you to take up this matter on a priority basis and give exemplary punishment to the offenders of yesterday’s match which will act as a deterrent and help preserve the spirit of the game.

Another incident that needs to be mentioned is the floodlight failure in the second half of this match which led to suspension of play by almost half an hour. In this context please note that we had requested IFA to prepone the kickoff time of this match by an hour (from 5 pm to 4 pm) to enable our player Chidi Edeh to board the flight to Lagos via Mumbai since his pregnant wife is critically ill and hospitalized in Lagos (letter dated 24th May 2010 from McDowell Mohun Bagan to IFA enclosed). In the Managers’ Meeting, it was decided and duly documented that kickoff would be at 4:30 pm (document enclosed for your easy reference). However after the meeting, it was notified to us that kickoff would be at 5 pm. This is strict violation of the rules and was done with a vicious motive so that our star striker Chidi would not be able to play full 90 minutes and at the same time he would be looking more at his watch than the opponent’s goal.

We feel that there is a sinister ploy behind the floodlight failure incident. Ultimately Chidi had to be replaced before the match ended, even though he was fit and in good form to play. CAB had appointed an independent committee of experts to find out the facts when floodlights went out at Eden Gardens a few months back during an IPL Twenty-Twenty match. We therefore request you to constitute a similar independent committee of experts, having no member from IFA, Clubs or YBK Stadium, to investigate into yesterday’s occurrence and thereafter to take strong exemplary action against those involved as a preventive measure.

Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Anjan Kumar Mitra
Hony. General Secretary
McDowell Mohun Bagan

Hattrick—– victory of the tradition

Bagan pips Chirag 1-0 to claim the Premier League title in an eventful match here on Tuesday. A Edeh chidi penalty converted helped the green and maroon outfit to a victory that ensured they retain the league title and pip Chirag United by 3 point. This is the third season in a row for Bagan for the Premiere League title.

Requiring a dramatic final twist to the most unpredictable of seasons, Bagan would only have retained the title if they had defeated Chirag – and Bagan boys retain the title with a clear 3 points lead over Chirag united. The match was a very eventful one. Bagan started playing attacking football from the very word GO. In the 1st minute Bagan earned a free kick as DU pulled down Barreto. But Joshimar did well to foil the Bagan attack. DU did well to foil Bagan attacks one after another for next 15 minutes. He really did well to stop Bagan from scoring in first 20 mins. Chirag was mostly dependent on counter attacks. Asim and Joshimar kept Deepak and Azim busy. In the 9th minute Sangram saved a Gauranga Dutta shot. But soon, as expected, Chirag players were found playing rough football to spoil Bagan’s rhythm.  In the 30th minute Sueoka almost scored but Sandeep fisted the ball out. Sandeep and DU did well to foil more attacks from the Green and Maroon outfit. In the 38th minute Souvik was booked and in the 41st minute Deepak got a warning as well. Barreto and Chidi were well marked in the ifrst half and 2 minutes were added as the injury time.

Sueoka down by Du in the Penalty box, this is penalty                                              Wrestiling by Du & Co. (referee showed double red)

In the second half Bagan started playing more attacking football. But since the 60th minute, there was a massive power and the black out took place for next 25 minute. In the 63rd minute, Souvik Chakraborty scored from a melee after Chidi headed the ball down. Referee Minangshu ruled it in favour of Chirag despite protests from the Nigerian, though he signaled it a goal earlier but suddenly cancelled . Horrible decision!!!!  Soon after, DU pulled Sueoka down inside the box and a penalty was awarded to Bagan. But the chirag players started man handling the referee. Both DU and Debdas got marching orders and Chirag was reduced to 9-men.Chidi converted the penalty to a goal.(1-0). Later both Bagan and Chirag got opportunities to score. Mohanraj, Sangram were also booked by the referee.  Finally the match ended with a high note as bagan retained the title for third time in a row and 29th time in aggregate.

This is the victory of the tradition, Mohun Bagan proved it despite of opposition’s wrestling in the soccer ground. This Chirag United can’t lead ever Bengal soccer. Shame Shame Chirag United !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Juniors win against JCT

Mohun Bagan U-19 has won the iLeague match against JCT U-19 here on Sunday. The first goal was scored in the first half by souvick Chakraborty. It was a long ranger from right. Later, in the second half Dipendu Duari scored the second goal – and that was a long ranger too. Bagan will play Sporting Clube de Goa in the next match

25th May, 2010 — The judgement day

Mohun Bagan defeated West Bengal Police 2-1 in their one before the last CFL Premier Division clash at the Salt Lake Stadium, here on Thursday. While Chirag United beating Kalighat 3-0 at Khardah Stadium, both the teams are in same position as per point, but Chirag got the advantage due to better goal difference. Mariners have missed the chance to increase goal difference against W.B.Police.

Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya wanted to give his foreign trio of Jose Ramirez Barreto, Edeh Chidi and Ryuji Sueoka rest before the championship decider against Chirag United. A bunch of irregular players like Chirodeep Chattopadhyay, Subha Kumar, Shanta Kumar, Subhojit Majumdar, Suraj Mondal looked totally out of sorts. This affects to the team. While they need to score heavily but they conceive one early in the 10th Minute. Policeman Kishore Mullick took the chance of a defensive blunder of Mariners and made no mistake to slotted past a hapless Chirodeep Chatterjee, the goalkeeper who played his team for the first time in competitive match apart from some of the practice matches. (0-1) On a serious note it must be known by all our reader Chirodeep played his last competitive match two years ago at 2008 against Bayern Munich for two minutes only.

However, Suraj Mondal had shown his brilliance when he received a long ball by chest and trapped well, then netted the ball by his left footer only in the next minute. (1-1)

In the rest of time of 1st half there was nothing for the defending champion except deep breath of supporters in the gallery. Isfaq, Suraj Masih, Suraj got no point from Policemen to take the advantage, though they got better possession.

In the second half Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya bring L. James Singh in the place of  Subho Kumar and in the 57th minute Japanese Ryuji Suekoa came in for Santha Kumar. There was expected lot of attack from Mariners and they were doing so except scoring the goal.

Derby match star Snehasis Chakraborty came in the place of Suraj Mondal at 74th Minute. Sueoka scored the second goal from a Azim square pass for the mariners and brought the much needed victory on the 84th minute. (2-1).

Chidi Barreto retained; new Co-sponsor

Mohun Bagan has retained the two key goal-getters for the team and forward duo of Jose Ramirez Barreto (Brazil) and Edeh Chidi (Nigeria). The team management has announced the same here on monday.

The team management has ended all speculations about Chidi and Barreto in the Press conference today. The two will continue playing for Mohun Bagan for the season 2010-2011. Incidentally both have got goals in regular intervals this season. The management will announce the the name of the third foreigner when they announce the full team.

Mohunbaganclub.com has learnt that there are few names including Muritala Ali of Mahindra United and Shillong FC defender Daniel Bidemi.
Ryuji Sueoka might not be there in the team and in case Bagan opts for Muritala – there can be a defender from Kuwait to fill in the gap of the Asian quota.

The team, which has McDowell as its title sponsor, announced the name iCore, as a co-sponsor for the next season.

Bagan 2-1 KEB :Bagan better in defense , midfield and attack

The Mohun Bagan supporters will be delighted, that team Mohun Bagan have managed to beat the Federation Cup champions by 2-1, by scoreline and also by the number of wins in the season.

Although there were no surprises in Bagan’ formation, the actual tactics were slightly different today. They defended extremely narrowly against KEB, almost forcing KEB to go around the defense rather than through it. It was a more traditionally-spaced back four – Surkumar, Azim, Deepak and Mohanraj, playing higher up the pitch. Masih was in the libero position – and hence there was a defensive screen before the defense. Barreto  and Chidi played up against the KEB centre-backs, with Sueoka and later Snehasish doing well to drop into midfield to pick up KEB’s deep defense with or without possession.

Bagan consistently looked to Sueoka, and he caused KEB no end of problems. Saumik was only supposed to track him as far as the halfway line, Okpara would cover Barreto and Mehraj and Khabra would take care of Chidi. But in the 13th minute the playmaker Sueoka open for a pass as he came to the wing, and the responsibility fell to Barreto to head – and Bagan was up 1-0. Before this  goal – Sueoka himself went into the position  but messed up with the ball and hit it at the sidenet.

The resulted in the KEB’s full-backs playing extremely high up the pitch even when not in possession, and therefore basically left a 2 v 4 situation at the back. Its Barreto and Chidi vs the four defendes of KEB. Okpara started chasing Barreto – and at times was found fouling him inside Bagan defensive third.

Okpara was not the only one to hit Bagan players – Khabra, Hammond, Mehtab, Saumik joined in soon. While Nabi tried to play some creative football others were found busy hitting Bagan players.

Then in the 86th minute Sueoka was able to drag Saumik, making it perfect for counter-attacks, and his final pass found Snehasish breaking quickly KEB defense and it was 2-0.

KEB defensehad the beating of Sueoka both for pace and in the air.

Bagan’s intention to secure 3 points by holding the ball was seen before Bhaichung snatched a ball – passed it to Sanju Pradhan whose final in the far post found Yakubu and Yakubu scored the lone goal for KEB of the match. Seconds after this goal referee Suresh blew the final whistle.

Bagan lose again – this time 0-4

An own goal by N S Manju, Felix, Kalu and Odafa’s goals helped Churchill Brothers to the surprise win over Mohun Bagan by 4-0, who failed to pull even one on Friday nightin iLeague.

Odafa’s shot deflected defender Manju’s body and got into the goal in the 20th minute.  And within next 10 minutes Bagan conceded 2 more goals – by Felix and Kalu. Shilton Pal and the whole defense line was shaking and it seems more goals will be there. So was it – and in the 52nd minute Odafa scored the 4th for Churchill – and thus Churchill keeps Dempo waiting for the iLeague title.

Unbelievable misses by Barreto and Surkumar Singh added to the misery.
