After a dismal performance innthe iLeague ladt season, Bagan started well under the new Chief Coach Kibu Vicuña.

Mohun Bagan played their first game in the season against City Rival Mohammedan Sporting in the Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football tournament that has been scheduled first time in Kolkata.

However it was clear at the end of the game that if Mohun Bagan is needed to banish the memory of poor end of last season, they will have to depend upon the scoring ability of the new Spanish recruit Salva Perez Martinez Chamorro to deliver goals particularly when the other strikers in the squad are either too young or lack persistence.

There was heavy rain and Bagan started with a caution that one should not be injured in the first game itself. However Salva got his first in the second minute of the game when Beitia’s cross to the box found his header and ball went past the goalie from far end.

At the 23rd minute Ashutosh’s cross from right flank again found Salva in the second post and his header helped Bagan go 2-0 up.

Bagan controlled the game for the rest of the first half, and Shilton Paul did well in the 44th minute when he covered Kouassi and foiled a goal.

Bagan played cautiously in the second half to ensure there is minimal injuty due to ground condition. Sahil however still got injured from the game.

Overall Bagan played well , and secured three vital points from the game.
