Mohun Bagan has kicked off well in their first Group B game against DSK Shivajians. Bagan had a comfortable victory as all three strikers , Balwant(2) , Duffy (1) and Jeje (1) scored. Sony missed two opportunities, Balwant a couple while a Duffy attempt was foiled. Pritam, Sehnaz and Souvik tested the DSK defense as well. DSK goalie saved some sure goals to reduce the embarrassment.
Bagan had fielded Shubasish, and the combination he had with Sony in iLeague was clearly visible. Anas was once again rock solid, and Edu played well. Pritam saved a goal as well.
Sony was brilliant as ever, he changed positions constantly , to right or to central midfield from time to time that made things tougher for DSK. Sehnaz was equally good and created a lot of opportunities.
Duffy and Balwant kept DSK defense into panic mode.
The first goal was scored by Balwant when Sony moved to right and his cross was brilliantly headed by Balwant.
In the second half Sony corner found Edu who missed and Duffy converted that to a goal at the far post.
Balwant scored his second and the team’s third when he had taken a power shot outside DSK box.
Jeje added to the scoresheet at the dying moment of the game when he got past DSK defender and placed the ball well from a difficult angle.
However Shilton seemed to have troubles deciding when to come out or when to leave. His unpopular gallery shows could have been costly like they did in the past. It was good of Bagan defense that they managed to ensure no damage was done.
And Yusa keeps on running relentlessly. However like all other non East Bengal matches he keeps on losing the focus when he is near the opponent goal line.
