AIFF – act before its too late

Sakuntala Chatterjee, a journalist at BBC World Service, wonders what’s wrong with AIFF. Here’s what she shared at a Facebook group of mohun Bagan supporters.

How can u expect teams like JCT to continue when there is no profit at the end of every season. To build a standard team to compete in the I-League a club has to have a minimun of 5 crore budjet. Apart from that there are many other added expenditure like travelling and accomodation. Teams like JCT, Viva Keral, Chirag United have annu…ally no profit. They don’t even have that huge fan base like EB, MB, DEMPO or CB to finance them through membership. Even if they win all the tournaments in India that won’t sum up to their team building cost. Lack of sponsor and fan following are cause for their down fall.

During the home matches of teams like JCT, Viva Keral, Mahindra Utd the galleries are completely empty. There is no gate money charged to see the match. The teams profit nothing compaired to that of other big clubs. Secondly, the condition of the stands are so aweful that even the handful of people who are interested to come are afraid of coming and enjoying the match. Can you believe each player were given 200/- per day as allowance by AIFF and 100/- per day for fooding and lodging during Fed Cup. Well if AIFF dosen’t take any action now, in no time this trend can grasp the big clubs as well.

Max amount a team can earn by winning all the trophies a year:

1. I-League – 50 lakhs
2. Federation Cup – 15 lakhs
3. Durand Cup – 20 lakhs
4. IFA Shield – 10 lakhs
5. Rovers Cup – 10 lakhs
