Adavantage Mohun Bagan in CAB League

Wicket-keeper batsman Abhijit Sikdar’s 97and a brilliant 70 in 80 balls of skipper Sanjib Sanyal helped Mohun Bagan to score a very good total of 380/6 in the first day of CAB League against arch rival East Bengal at Eden Gardens.

Apart from these two batsmen Arindam Ghosh (58) and Rajasthan Royals star Bengal boy Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (48) played also an important role for the Green and Maroon.

But it was not the whole story, when Mariners were 49/2,situation was so gloomy for them against their arch rival. But Jhunjhunwala and Arindam Ghosh stabilized the innings and both of them got out in the quick succession and ex-skipper Debabrata Das also followed them soon. That time it was 199/5 for the Mariners. Then a superb 123 runs partnership between Sanjib Sanyal and Abhijit Sikdar brought their team in the right route and Mariners scored 380/6 at the end of day’s play. Tomorrow East Bengal to chase the target of 381, which is not so very easy to chase. So, end of first day’s play it is advantage Mohun Bagan.

Junior The Mariner

Satish Kumar Jr. is a new recruit from HAL. The boy has a lot of promise and comes from the land of Arumanaigam, Ulaganathan.

Satish Kumar was born into a family of limited means in Gouthampuram, a nursery of Bangalore football. His father, Janardhan, an HAL ex-player died on a heart attack when Satish wasn’t even born. His mother struggled a lot to raise the family of 2 brothers and a sister. Some of his cousins, who are staying at the same locality were footballers and encourage him play. Also, his mother always encouraged his game. His elder brother, Karthigayen too plays for HAL.

How did he join Mohun Bagan – Joy Dada (no no Calcutta downot have a direct Volvo to Begaluru, its our very own Joy Kandu) came during I-League 2nd division final round at Bangalore. He met me after the match, called me in his hotel, and offered me to play for Bagan. Around 10 days back I signed on a formal aggrement.

On his chance of getting in the first 11 – I’ll give my best performace in the practice sessions, impress the coach, and hopefully he’ll give me a chance to perform. I am comfortable playing in the right and left half positions. In the final round I-League 2nd division matches, I played as a striker and scored many goals.
I am seeking help from Arumanaigam, Ulaganathan, R C Prakash about playing in Kolkata. They are like my gurdian and providing valuable tips. It is not only about playing a nice game, scoring also matters.

On Coach Stanley who also hails from Bangalore – I do not know him personally, he coached MEG (Madras Engineering Group), a super division team from Bangalore for several years. Since is out of Bangalore for few seasons, it is difficult for him to keep tab on the local football scene. I look forward to play under his guidance.

Past teams
– Southern Blues 05/06
– LRDE  06/07 to 07/08
– HAL 08/09 to 09/10

On his former team – learned several things, coach and senior players including Xavier Vijay Kumar guided me every time. There’s nothing wrong about HAL, but one needs to move on and take challenges in life. Mohun Bagan is a big institution, I am glad to be a part of it.
