Mohun Bagan will play against Kuwait SC tomorrow in an AFC Cup match to be held in Howrah Stadium. Mohun Bagan has lost their first two matches in AFC cup. Mohun Bagan and Kuwait SC had their practice sessions today of 1 hour each in Howrah Stadium. Barreto is fit to play tomorrow’s match. If Manju and Sangram is unable to play, they will be replaced by Vashan and Shilton. Mohun Bagan coach had shown CD of a match of Kuwait SC to his players before yesterday’s practice session. The match will kick off tomorrow at 3 pm.
At 4 pm, a prematch press conference was held in the venue itself. Kuwait SC coach, Laurent Banide said that his team will have to play 7 matches in 22 days in their local league and that they are now leading the league table and so they have decided to rest a few key players to keep them fresh for Kuwait league. "We have decided to give rest to the three foreign players of our team and we have brought in few young players. There are four national players in our team. For tomorrow’s match, we have a good combination of youth and experience." Regarding hot and humid condition, the former coach of Monaco sportingly said, "We have to adapt to different climatic conditions. Even Argentina goes to play in Ecuador in extreme climate, this is part of professional football." Laurent Banide had been head coach of Monaco for one season and also assistant coach for another season, he was also involved for 12 years with their youth academy. Monaco is one of the most successful clubs in French football with seven league titles and five French Cup titles. Mr. Banide also said, "We are currently in a good place in the table, but that doesn’t guarantee anything. We need to play well to advance to the next round and I hope we put up a good show.” He also said that he is very much pleased with the ground condition.

Of note, Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencharifa got negative reviews by a section of press for his decision to rest a few players in their last AFC cup match against Al Wihdat. Karim had rightly at that time made this decision in order to give MORE importance to I league than AFC Cup. He had clearly said before Al Wihdat match, "At this point, I league is heading my priority list. It is not that I am not giving importance to AFC cup, but it comes 2nd in my priority list. I might make few changes to use fresh legs in coming I league matches." Now we can see that other teams like Al Wihdat or Kuwait SC are also following the same path and both teams did not bring in their foreigners and few key players to play against Mohun Bagan to keep them fresh for the national league of their country.
Karim today said, "The situation is different now from last match. Before playing against Al Wihdat, we had lost 2 matches in I league and also had few important matches coming, so we decided to rest few players but in tomorrow’s match, we will be playing our first team and before the important match against Dempo, we will have five days rest. I will decide on Manju and Sangram tomorrow morning, will have to see if they are fit enough to play or not. Remember that we have won our Federation Cup this year without the service of Manju and Odafa." Regarding his team’s chances in AFC Cup, he said, "“We are concentrating on this match and we know that if we perform well in the remaining matches we will have a chance of progressing." Lalkamal Bhowmick said, "We will try our level best to win tomorrow’s match, if we get 3 points from this match, we will definitely have a good chance to get to next round."
