Manish sparks as Bagan win comfortably

Mohun Bagan defeated Kalighat MS by 4-1. The pressure was on Home Team as they had suffered a shocking defeat in the last match. Barreto, the dependable, was not in starting lineup as he had not recovered fully from the injury since last match. Coach Stanly Rozario did not take any risk with Barreto ahead of crucial encounter against Chirag on next Sunday. Stanley made some more changes in the stating line up as Snehasis, Manish Maithani and Sk. Azim came in place of Ishfaq, Rahul Kumar and Dhanrajan . Not much improvement was visible during the opening half and the situation got though when Bapi Das of Kalighat Milan Sangha scored a goal by taking the chance of late covering of Okwy Diamondstar in 43rd minute. But in the 2nd half Bagan came back to the business heavily and get rid of KMS comfortably.

From the starting of the match it was a boring game played by the mariners. At times KMS displayed better skills than Mohun Bagan as Christopher of KMS kept Bagan defence busy. On the other hand Muritala and Chidi were trying their best but failed to capitalize half chances. In the 12th minute of the match Muritala rushed into the KMS box with the ball and instead taking shot directly he tried to pass it to Chidi but  KMS defender could manage to clear the ball before Chiddi could act on it.  Immediate after that move Manish Maithani took a long ranger from the edge of the penalty box but it went high. Indeed his effort was good but not enough to break KMS defence. In the 18th minute Christopher of KMS took a long ranger from right side of the penalty box but missed the target by couple of inches. It could have been dangerous for Bagan because Sangram was not in best position to save the ball. In remaining period the first Bagan tried to build some attack but unfortunately all went in vain. On the contrary, in 42nd minute it was an attack by KMS and Christopher again reached to the penalty box of Bagan and took a shot to goal from angle, Sangram was not able to clear it and Bapi Das ran into the six yards box  and put it into the Bagan’s net (0-1). Diamondstar was not able to tackle him. Diamond has to be more fast otherwise against big guns Bagan may face shocking result. Just before end of the first half Kingshuk Debnath was shown yellow card by referee Debasish Mishra because of rough tackle.

Mohun  Bagan started off the second half with style. In 55th minute Manish Maithani scored a brilliant goal by his right footer and level the score (1-1). It was a free-kick taken by Snehasis and the ball came to Manish and he took a shot between the legs of KMS players. After that Bagan displayed impressive football which helped them to build more pressure on opponent’s box.  In the mean time Manish again took the similar kind of shot from which he scored but the substitute goal keeper of KMS Debjit Majumder saved this time. In the 64th minute Coach Stanly made double substitution – Barreto come in place of Diamondstar and Karan Atwal in place of Jayanta Sen. Then on Bagan changed the formation and went for  all out attack with 4-3-3 combination.

In the 68th minute Chidi scored a brilliant goal by his left foot by keeping two KMS players in his right. And after that Bagan started to make waves of attack to the KMS defence. As a result of that in the 80th minute Muritala scored a superb goal from a Surabuddin cross. (3-1). In the 84th minute from a Snehasis corner Muritala was just inches away to head the ball inside the net, other wise it could have been fourth for Bagan and second for Muritala. But it was not so late, just a minute later Chidi got the ball at the midfield area and beat two defenders, goalkeeper and keep the ball into the net from right side of the box (4-1). It was a Chidi magic at Mohun Bagan Ground. There was heavy rain this time at the ground and the fans, supporters of Mohun Bagan were delighted with celebration.

Manish Maithani was adjudged Man of the Match for his impressive performace.

Stanly to discuss with players today

After a shocking defeat against Techno Aryan, Mohun Bagan players will practice on Monday morning. There will be a discussion between coaches and players about last day’s poor result as well as very ordinary performance. Stanly Rozario is not going to agree with this opinion that he had chosen the wrong first XI. He told that he has done as much as he can with this team.

Problem is that under -19 Suraboddin Mallick is not playing well and he is the best option among the other Under-19 players in the team. Apart from that Ishfaq Ahmed is also most ordinary, experts are saying that Snehasis should be in the first-XI in the place of Ishfaq. Jayant Sen also needs to improve his performance. Muritala Ali is not like Chidi, Muritala will score among 10-12 chances so it has to be created. Chidi and Barreto are still playing better football than others.

Stanly will start with three foreign forward Barreto,Chidi, Muritala  in the first-XI. Diamondstar may take place in reserve bench. His performance was also most ordinary.

On the other side Barreto is unhappy with the strategy of wasting time by the Techno Aryan players.

There will be  practice session on  tomorrow morning in spite of  political strike and the team will play against Kalighat MS on Wednesday 8th September, 2010 at Mohun Bagan ground.

Mohun Bagan vs Chirag on Sunday

The match between Mohun Bagan and Chirag United will be held on Sunday, September 12th instead of Saturday. IFA declared that due to Id-Ul-Fitre all the matches of11th and 12th September will be held on 13th and 14th of the month successively. There will be practice session in the morning on Tuesday 7th September instead of political strike. There will be arrangement to bring player to the club ground from club’s mess at Cental Kolkata. Practice session will start from 7.30 am.

There was a practice match today morning  between 1st and 2nd team of Mohun Bagan and Chidi  scored  a  pair of goal for the first team. Barreto did not take part in the practice match, he did physical conditioning and gym. Meanwhile there was a team meeting, which took place today about the defeat against Techno Aryan. After that Coach Stalny Rozario told that any match at the start of the season is tough. He also added that they should be given  time to build combination in the team. He is playing with new formation (4-3-2-1) and his target is play as much as on the ground level and riddle the opponent. He told that his plan is also not rewarding due to small size of Mohun Bagan ground. After all eight players of the first-XI are new in the team, there may be lack of indulgent between the players and it will be resolved by the practice only.

However, as fans of Mohun Bagan we expect that the team will see the success and give joy to fans.

Poor show by Bagan

Mohun Bagan faced a shocking defeat against Techno Aryan in their second match of Sahara CFL. Stanly, the only goal scorer of the match brought a sweet victory for his team and almost full strength Bagan team lost to them. It may not be decisive but later we have to find the way to get out of this type of situation, which is not expected for the team like Mohun Bagan AC. Only Surkumar Singh and Rakesh Masih to join this squad otherwise this team will play Fed Cup or I League with almost same squad. This should be the deep concern for Coach Stanly Rozario.

Before the match started there was light drizzle but the atmophere was very much pleasant at ground and it was almost full house.

Bagan started with same eleven, which has played in the last match against  Tollygunj. But in the 8th minute of the match Bagan defence conceived a goal by the defensive collapse. An Aryan player Mohon Sarkar dribbled two Bagan defender and pushed the ball to Stanly, Stanly made no mistake to put the ball into the net by his right footer. Sangram had nothing to do.

From then Bagan played a mind-numbing football, which couldn’t help them to get back into the match. Meaninless football of Mariners brought so much frustration to the supporters of the stand. It was really worthless. Barreto and Muritlala both were trying heavily to do better for their team but they are not supported by the others. Muritala has also not played well today, he has to improve his game for which club officials brought him. Average game cannot be the level to play for Mohun Bagan.

In the 37th minute Barreto missed a sitter. In the the 40th minute Bagan got a free-kick and Barreto kicked the ball straight to the Aryan wall, no damage done to Aryan. At the end 1st half Bagan was trailing by 0-1.

At the starting of the second half everybody expected some changes but to utter surprise there was no change. And the same meaningless football was going on. In the 55th minute at last coach Stanly has given the order to change. Sk. Azim and Edeh Chidi was bought in the place Diamondstar and Ashim Biswas. This Ashim Biswas played as a forward but it is really frustrating that he has not initiated or finished any fruitful attack. In the last match report we mentioned about him that he has to improve his game, and we are remained stick into the same point. He has to improve more and more and more. Literally all 55minutes he tried to follow the ball but failed. Another is Okwy Diamondstar. He has to improve a lot otherwse it will be catastrophic for Bagan for all the season.

Then all three foreigners had started from the front. Barreto, Chiddi, Muritala Ali geared up the tempo of attack but midfield was so dull that they have not got ample support.  One must also mention Aryan central defender Sourav Chakraborty for his gritty show. The 18-year-old nullified the trio of Barreto, Chidi and Murithala Ali.

Ishfaq Ahmed, the captain was the most failure player of the match. His distrubution, his ball control was not at the level best, which he has to do. Captain should indicate the dimension of the team. But Ishfaq himself was absolutely super flop today. There was immense pressure from gallery this time to bring Snehasis in the place of Ishfaq. At last in the 80th minute this change happened. But it was too late to survive. Yet a corner kick of Snehasis hit the cross bar and the ball went to unmarked to Muritala Ali, but failed to push the ball inside the net. This was the best chance for Bagan in the entire match. After that in the added time Bagan made a lot of attack but luck was not with them today. It may be a bad day in office. Accident happened sometimes but not daily. We hope Mohun Bagan will come back heavily in the upcoming matches.

Mariners will play their next match against Kalighat MS on Wednesday 8th September, 2010 at their own ground.

Happy Birthday Jose !!

3rd September, 1976, Port Algere, Brazil. There born a sweet baby named Jose Ramirez Barreto. But who knew then that a Brazilian will become the legend of National Club of India? Nobody knows except God, I bet. Jose Ramirez Barreto, the name is so very synonymous with the emotion of the millions of fans of Mohun Bagan AC. He has become a symbolic character of Mohun Bagan breaking all the geographical boundaries. Mohunbaganclub.com wishes Jose Barreto a long, happy and prosperous life.

In the year 1999,  Barreto comes to India to play for Mohun Bagan. The first season, Barreto was seen playing with Uzbek player Igor Skivrin. He brought the well-coveted National League for the National Club. From then, it has started, and continuing till date – sailing the boat of Mohun Bagan on his own shoulder.

In the last match against Tollygunj Agragami, when the situation of the team was not very good, there came his goal from a 25 yards long range. This is Barreto! Whenever his team fall in short of target, there is only him to show his team ray of hope, shinning of joy, glory of victory.

Jose Barreto is not only a successfull player, he is a good human being as well by his character, his moral and his family life.

As a Mohun Bagan supporter we salute this Brazilian, the great Mohun Bagani.

Happy Birthday, many many returns of the day!

Bagan starts Sahara CFL with a winning streak, wallops Tollygunj 4-0

4-0! Whoa, that’s the scoreline of the match between Mohun Bagan vs Tollygunj Agragami, where the result goes in favour of Mohun Bagan. Muritala Ali scored the first from a penalty in added time of first half. In the second half, Barreto showed his magic, scored the second goal in the 68th minute. Third goal came in 89th minute from a brilliant move of Chiddi and Barreto, and the fourth goal scored by Edeh Chiddi at the last minute of the match.

There was a light drizzle before starting of the match and Mohun Bagan Ground stand was absolutely poured by the Mohun Bagan members, supporters. Who says Kolkata Football has died?

First goal was scored from a penalty, which was given due to hand ball by aTollygunj player in the penalty box. Muritala Ali, the debutant for Bagan didn’t make any mistake to score from the penalty in the injury time of the first half (1-0). Mariners did not play up to the mark in the first half. Maybe it is the first competitive match of the season and team has not been tested so far in the season.

The second half did not see any remarkable improvement in the game for the Mariners. Barreto was trying alone but others were pretty ordinary at that time. Tollygunj Agragami is the team whose doesn’t have permanent practice ground in the maidan, however, they were fighting heavily against giant Mohun Bagan at that point of time. Even though they have not scored any goal, still they managed to overtake the defence of Mohun Bagan couple of times.Sangram was wary under the goal so no damage done by the Agragami players.

In the 66th minute, Edeh Chiddi came in the place of  debutant Muritala Ali, who didn’t had a great game. After that, Mariners attacks become more sharp and Barreto – Chiddi combo made some good movement that kept Tollygunj defence too busy. It was in the 69th minute when talismanic striker Jose Barreto got the ball and took a long ranger from 25 yards and scored a magnifient goal (2-0). It was a sign of his fitness and the supporters got some relief from that goal.

In the 72nd minute, coach Stanly Rozario made another change while Jayanta left the field and Manish Maithani took his place. Satish Kumar, the ex-HAL player came in the place of Ashim Biswas in 81st minute of the match. Ashim’s performance was most ordinary in the field today. He has to improve more to be in to the first-XI regularly.

In the 89th minute of the match, Barreto made a great run down the right flank from a pass of Chiddi, and entered in to the opposition’s box. He goes past Louis and takes a shot which beat goalkeeper. The ball went inside the goal by deflecting Sundarlal Hembram’s leg, who tried to clear the ball, but it went to the back of the net. The referee awarded the goal to Barreto (3-0).

In the 93rd minute it was Chiddi magic. After getting the ball from Barreto in the left flank, Chiddi beat two defenders, and netted the ball from a acute angle (4-0).

Jose Barreto was declared man of the match.

In the post match press conference Chief Coach Stanly Rozario was looking very happy winning by big margin. He said, "First match of the season always tough, despite of that team has won by capitalising team spirit. I am happy by performance of all the players. Man of the match Barreto told that he did practice of taking long ranger shot got the sweet result today, still his team has to improve in many places.

Mohun Bagan: Sangram, Kingshuk, Rahul Kumar, Diamondstar, Dhanarajan, Jayanta (72′-Manish), Ishfaq, Surabuddin (U-19), Ashim (81′-Satish Kumar jr.), Muritala (66′-Chidi), Barreto.
