Coach and Captain – terrible combination

Mohun Bagan had shown a terrible show so far in this season. The reasons why the team is having poor show , and the team has been reduced to a “one half” team – needs a retrospect.

Categories

  • Coach – and his lack of vision in setting the right team after 6 games
  • Captain – his lackluster attitude and clueless defending
  • Senior players’ lack of confidence

The coach has got 6 games to find out the right combination of the team. He has placed 6 different playing XI in all these 6 games.  He finally realised that with Bose , Tom and Rai – you can’t go for a 3-5-2 combination. He has realised that 4 defenders is the right combination when these defenders are fielded. He then puts up two defensive midfielders before the defense – leading to a lack of an attacking midfielder – match after match. He could have fielded just Deepak Tangri as a defensive midfielder who should have been a better choice any day.

The coach does not have confidence to field an attacking midfield for unknown reasons. In spite of fielding a defensive formation – only one game saw clean sheet – and Bagan conceded at an average of 2 goals in the rest of the games. The coach decides to have a zero left wing in the first half against Bengaluru FC ! Why ? The confidence he has on Shubhashish Bose is stunning.

Bose has never been able to foil fast attacks unless he becomes physical. He can be dribbled easily, He can get into false position easily. Bose goes on attack and either puts the ball into no man’s zone or loses the control – and is slow enough to get back to his position. However, he has got 90 mins of game – match after match, while video recordings of the games will show at times he tries to hide behind Tom exposing the left flank. Why is coach unable to give  Amandeep match time? What is coach’s interest in giving Bose opportunities match after match ?

Coach either takes Liston off or Manvir off from time to time in first XI leading to a problem in the balance of the team. Sahal had been instrumental in assisting goals , just like Liston or Manvir – but he is not placed in playing XI !

Dimitri or Jason don’t get balls at all in the attacking third – did the coach find out why ? The confidence level of these players are at all time low – has the coach even considered addressing the same?

Coach’s love towards Bose and lack of confidence in a formation of Liston, Deepak, Sahal, Manvir is costing Bagan heavily – match after match.  IF the coach is unable to address the problems, Bagan will be in a disastrous position in ISL soon.
