Mohun Bagan beat United Sikkim in the IFA Shield match. Sabeeth is the only scorer of the match and scored in the 33rd minute from a corner of Denson Devdas. Apart from that Mariners created several attacks but couldn’t convert them to the goals. Zakir missed the penalty as well as Katsumi’s shot hit the post. Though in the post match press conference Karim clarified that Katsumi couldn’t score the goal in the I League match against Bengaluru FC, that is why he instructed Zakir to take the penalty. But Zakir failed to increase the margin for his team. Bagan will next play against Mohammedan Sporting on 5th February at VYBK.
End of Bagan’s run
Bagan’s run comes to an to an end due to multiple factors. Pratap Singh, who gifted CB a penalty early in the game, finished off the game early. Ad to it, CB play acting managed to steal 5 additional minutes. In addition, Bagan had a dismal performance and the wood works stopped Bagan from scoring. A christopher goal was adjudged offside.
Bagan 1 – 0 Salgaocar, Bagan vs Churchill in Semifinal
Bagan made a 1-1 draw with Salgaocar in the last group league match of 35th Federation Cup. Bagan played well in the match but missed a lot of chances, that is why they couldn’t manage to get past Salgaocar.
Odafa scored from a penalty in the 59th minute, which the is contribution of Chizoba Christopher. He was fouled at the penalty box and referee Santosh Kumar awarded penalty to Mariners and Odafa make no mistake to score the goal. But in the 79th minute Bikash Sairu from Salgaocar took the 35 yards long ranger shot and the ball kissed the net by touching the fingertips of Shilton Paul.
However, Bagan managed to reach in the semi final quite convincingly as they got 7 points. They will meet Churchill Brothers in the Semifinal at Cochin at 4.00pm.
Bagan is the only team from Kolkata in the semifinal along with three goan team Churchill, Dempo, Sporting Clube de Goa. So, the pride of Bengal football is in the hand of Mohun Bagan.
