Khalid Jamil appointed head coach of India men’s football team

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Friday announced Khalid Jamil’s appointment as the new head coach of the Indian men’s football team. The announcement comes following a rigorous selection process conducted throughout last month; Jamil will succeed Manolo Marquez in the role.

“The AIFF Executive Committee, in the presence of the Technical Committee, has approved the appointment of Khalid Jamil as the new head coach of the Senior India Men’s National Team,” the AIFF wrote in a post on X.

Transfer News: Mohun Bagan announces signing Abhishek Tekcham Singh

 Mohun Bagan has confirmed the signing of India full-back Abhishek Singh Tekcham on a four-year deal from Punjab FC for the upcoming season, the Indian Super League side announced on Thursday. Arch rival East Bengal was also after him to secure his sign on dotted lines. But yet again Mohun Bagan proved, they can triumph any transfer deal if they sincerely want. The 20-year-old from Manipur played in the majority of Punjab FC’s Indian Super League matches in the 2024/2025 season. He has made 22 appearances, totaling 1,958 minutes on the field in the ISL. In the previous season, Abhishek Singh Tekcham made 12 Indian Super League appearances for Punjab FC and provided two assists. He can play in both right and left back position which will be crucial for upcoming season.

Abhishek made his national team debut in March against the Maldives, contributing to a 3–0 win and clean sheet. He started both of India’s matches in the June international window.

“I received offers from several big clubs in the country. But the reason I chose Mohun Bagan Super Giant is because it is the No. 1 club in the country. You win championships at Mohun Bagan. You win trophies. You chase dreams,” Abhishek said, after joining the club.

“Their continuous trophy-winning journey inspired me to join them. This club is always in the title race. I also dream of winning titles in the club’s jersey.”

“While playing for Punjab, I won the I-League. But I have not won the premier competitions in the country — the ISL and the Shield — yet. I hope I’ll be able to fulfil that dream by playing for Mohun Bagan,” Abhishek added.

“Many top stars of Indian football are here. Training and playing with them will benefit me. Though I have played for India, I aim to play in the AFC Championship. That’s a dream I want to fulfil.”
