Mohun Bagan split points with Mohammedan Sporting

Mohunbagan yet to register a win I-League. Apparently both Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting wanted to secure full three points to improve their position in the League Table. But the teams end up with a 1-1 draw. It is hard to say which team had the upper hand. Both teams scored a goal each, and missed many.

Mohun Bagan , with players like Baichung Bhutia, PC Lalawmpuia, Sangram Mukherjee, Habibur Mandal nursing injury, Deepak, Shilton not fully recovered, Marcos yet to get the clearing – went with Shilton, Mohanraj, Odafe, Vasan, Deepak, Masih, L James, Lalkamal, Tulunga, Ishfaq and Barreto.

MSC scored in the 3rd minute as Mariners defense fail to clear a ball. Thakur placed the ball well in the far post. Bagan midfield, for the first time in the i-League, then started to capture the middle third. For next 20 minutes Bagan attacked, and at times MSC counter attacked.

Barreto and Ishfaq created pressure on MSC defense that looked fragile and in the 24th minute Barreto passed a ball to Tulunga on the right flank, takes his position, gets back the ball from Tulunga and placed it well – and the ball was found kissing the net from inside. Both the teams got bookings – Odafe was booked for handling the ball while Barreto were booked for reasons the referee knows , or perhaps even he didn’t know. Masih was awarded Man of the Match. Even Deepak Mandal could have got this award.
