Mohun Bagan’s senior team started the 2025-26 season in a style as they got past city rivals Mohammedan Sporting by 3-1 in the first game of Durand Cup.

Liston Colaco was spectacular in the game- he scored two goals, one from a freekick from the edge of the box and then converted a spot kick. He assisted the Suhail Bhat goal as well.

The team was reduced to 10-men after Apuia was fouled resulting to a head butt by him in retaliation that saw him receiving marching order.

However, the team was also seen missing many opportunities, particularly Suhail who could have scored a hat-trick had he converted the opportunities he got in the game. Anirudh Thapa and Kiyan Nasiri missed some opportunities as well.

Having falled by 0-1 at the half time, Mohameddan Sporting came back in the game in early second half, courtesy to the goal by Ashley. who got a loose ball as Vishal Kaith tried to clear an MSC long ranger. MSC tried to play pressing football after the equalizer, however, coach Bastab Roy did a good tactical move by putting Abhishek Suryavangshi ahead in the midfield thus stopping the ball distribution from the central midfield to two wings.

For the majority of this game, Mohun Bagan looked to be composite inspite of players starting the training session very late.

Fresh from signing a new contract, Tekcham Abhishek singh earned the confidence of the supporters as a left back.
