Mohun Bagan wins CFL

Mohun Bagan Super Giant have been crowned champions of the Calcutta Premier League, ending an eight‑year wait and reclaiming Kolkata’s oldest football crown with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Mohammedan Sporting.    

The triumph is historic not only because of the football on display, but because it ends a long wait , the club last won the CFL in 2018, making this a return to local supremacy after eight years.

The decisive match — a thrilling 3–2 victory over Mohammedan Sporting — had everything:

 

  • Sahal Abdul Samad’s brilliance with two headed goals and one assist
  • A late winner from young talent Sayan Banerjee through a cool right-footed placement
  • A tense phase of more than half-an-hour after Bagan were reduced to 10 men upon custodian Deepprovat’s elimination.

Roaring stands filled with flags, chants, and the unmistakable pulse of Mariners’ passion was a delight to witness indeed.

With this win, Mohun Bagan now hold 31 CFL titles, a record that stretches across eras — from pre‑Independence football to the modern ISL age. With that, the 8-year long CFL draught also ends.

 

Updates from AIFF

How much it would help Indian football develop, God Knows. All India Football Federation or AIFF has taken initiative to rename itself as FFB or Bharat Football Federation. India would be then sporting as ‘Bharat’ in the international circuit. The process is on. It’s still in the proposal and approval-seeking phase.

Furthermore, Mr. Chaubey and his colleagues have passed a new resolution requiring both the national anthem (‘Jana Gana Mana’) and the national song (‘Vande Mataram’) to be played before all official matches under their aegis.

By the way, AIFF has already proposed an annual football calendar for the top-tier Indian teams. ISL, Durand and Fed Cup will remain as the major tourneys. More updates are likely to come soon about PIO/ OCI footballers for the ISL clubs. 

 

31st May: A red-letter day in Mohun Bagan’s history

11 years back, it was a night to cherish forever for every Mohun Bagan fan across the globe. The golden moment of the Bello Rasaq’s header cuddling into the net will continue to resonate in every mariner’s heart. Let’s immerse ourselves into that dream-comes-true aura for one more time.

 

After a long wait of 13 years draught, finally the redemption was accomplished with that header sealing the all necessary 1-1 draw against BFC at their backyard only. The national club of India were again crowned the national football champions. History rewritten!!!
